Unique (and Stress-free!) Valentine’s Ideas in DFW

Valentine’s Day can be stressful. You have to make reservations, find the perfect outfit, and then you spend the evening in a cramped restaurant gazing lovingly into each others eyes while the two couples six inches from your elbows do the same.

The holiday has the potential to be a wonderful, exciting reminder of falling in love, and to fan the flames of passions, new and old. But high expectations can make realizing those lofty goals difficult. That’s why we’ve come up with this list of fun, stress-free Valentine’s Day activities that are guaranteed to impress your significant other with your thoughtfulness, without making either one of you want to pull your hair out.

The Book of Mormon at the Winspear Opera House

Laughter is one of nature’s aphrodisiacs, and this musical is pretty much guaranteed to have you rolling in the aisles. If you’ve heard of the smash hit musical, then you probably already know that it was written by same duo who created South Park, but did you know that the soundtrack was composed by Bobby Lopez, aka the composer behind Frozen? If you didn’t know either of those things, this is probably a good time to mention that this modern musical is pretty much universally beloved, but maybe not the most suitable for children. So grab a babysitter and head to the Winspear for a night of decidedly adult entertainment. Click here for tickets.

A Valentine’s Concert at the Arlington Museum of Art

If your tastes are more KERA than Comedy Central, this may be the perfect event for you. The evening begins with a concert featuring operatic and classical songs of romance, and then segues into a night of dancing to live music played by classical virtuosos. Feel free to bring your own bottle of wine, and let the music set the tone. Follow this link to read more or buy tickets.

King Spa, Sauna and Waterpark

If you’ve never been to a Korean-style spa, you can be forgiven for being suspicious of a unisex spa facility. But don’t worry, there’s nothing illicit or tawdry going on at this Dallas institution. Here’s how it works: Whether you are a single person, a couple, or a family, you will each buy a 24 hour pass and be ushered to a single-sex changing area where you will be given a uniform to wear while you are in the spa and sauna. Then you pass into the main area, where you will have your choice between more than a dozen different pools and relaxation chambers, each either heated or specially constructed to provide a particular kind of detoxification. For example, you can start in one of the heated pools, transfer to a cool one, and then head to either a traditional sauna or a salt chamber. Children are welcome, and there’s even a waterpark and movie theater to keep them entertained. Upgrades like acupressure massages are on offer, or you can simply bask in one of the pools, and let your stress float away. More details and pricing information are available on their website.

Romancing the Stars at the UT Arlington Planetarium

This couples-only Valentine’s Day show is a romantic tour of the night sky, designed to inspire passion and awe, as you are led on a guided tour of some of the most beautiful spots in the universe. Restore your sense of perspective and wonder as you and your partner enjoy a night of stargazing, with the sights projected onto a 60-foot dome shaped screen.

We’re just going to come right out and admit it: we don’t golf. At all. Even Putt-Putt is sometimes a bit of a challenge. But TopGolf? We’re in. This luxe facility offers drinks, dining, games and more, plus a multi-tiered driving range where you can test (or in our case, develop) your skills. Perfect for couples or groups, this fairly new entertainment complex is a ton of fun, whether you own your own clubs or not.

Moxley Manor’s Valentine’s Day Massacre

If you’re in the market for something with a little bit of an edge, why not check out Moxley Manor’s special V-Day weekend-only haunted house? This is a perfect date for someone who gags at the thought of sappy traditional outings, and who’d rather receive a single white lily than a dozen red roses. Sound good? If so, grab those ripped fishnets, line your eyes with black, and  head over to the Bedford haunted house’s guaranteed-to-thrill take on romance. Follow the link for information about ticket purchasing, location, and times.

No matter what you choose, just remember. Valentine’s Day is a celebration of your love, so why not do something that’s perfect for you? For some people, that’s fine dining, and for others, it’s a haunted house.
